In The New Black, a film by Yoruba Richen, same-sex marriage in the black community comes under examination, in particular, the black church which has long been a mainstay as a place to worship and to organize both socially and politically. Yoruba Richen discusses the intersection of race, politics and sexual orientation and the controversial hold it has within the black community. This episode also features footage from recent protests against police violence, and commentary from Laura Flanders.
