Laura Flanders Show/Justice Reporting Fellowship (1 spring & 1 fall) 2023/4

Laura Flanders Show/Justice Reporting fellowships are part-time, three-month placements at a nationally syndicated, independent TV and radio program for aspiring and early-career journalists and digital media professionals with a lived experience with the criminal justice system.

Fellows will develop skills and gain experience producing short videos and in-studio discussions for a weekly public affairs program, and have the opportunity to bring their unique voices, perspectives and experiences into the newsroom.

All fellowships are remote, reporting directly to Laura Flanders (host and executive producer), and meeting virtually with staff in every area of production. Flanders and her staff will provide one-on-one mentorship and supervision to help fellows maximize their involvement in production and promotion practices.

Fellows will be expected to work roughly 20 hours a week and participate in the production of 2 -3 half-hour episodes. They will also be expected to produce 2-3 short videos in support of those episodes, in collaboration with LF Show staff. Fellows will be paid $500/week for 12 weeks and credited on screen.

To apply: Send a letter expressing why you’d be a good fit for this fellowship and an edited video of no more than 3 minutes in length plus one idea for an episode of the Laura Flanders Show to jobs@lauraflanders.org with the subject heading “Justice Reporting Fellowship”. Video may be recorded on a phone but must include at least one person speaking to the “camera.”

The Laura Flanders Show, which calls itself “the place where the people who say it can’t be done take a backseat to the people who are doing it”, is a forward-looking TV and radio program produced out of New York by a not-for-profit organization, Curious Communications Inc, and distributed nationally by American Public Television and the Public Radio Exchange.
