Cristina Jiménez: Dreaming and Building Immigrant Freedom

Audio Exclusive

In a recent episode called Unforget, Dream, Build, we featured two Latinx Americans whose work flies in the face of the idea that immigrants are a problem or immigration a threat. We spoke Roberto Lovato, about his memoir “Unforgetting…” and with MacArthur genius award-winner, Cristina Jiménez, co-founder of United We Dream who talked powerfully about how her generation experiences the good as well as the bad of immigrant and immigration activism. Cristina spoke so powerfully that it broke our hearts not to be able to share more of it. So here we release the almost uncut version of that conversation. You’ll hear her story about growing up as an undocumented immigrant, and her grassroots work advocating for Dreamers in the face of ICE crackdowns and COVID 19.
